Mathematical software is software used to model, analyze or calculate numerical, symbolic or geometric data.

This is a type of application software used to solve mathematical problems or learn math. There are various views on what mathematics is, so there are various views of the categories of mathematical software used for them, from narrow to broad meaning.

A type of mathematical software (math library) is also used by built in sections of other scientific software. Most importantly they (for example, to calculate the basic functions by floating point arithmetic) may be in the category of mathematical software. They are often usually built into general purpose systems as middleware. So to speak, math software is not only an application software but also a foundation of other scientific software. And that is one of the characteristics of such mathematical software Some math software often has a good user interface for educational purposes (see educational math software). But the core part of the solver of those directly depends on the algorithm by the knowledge of mathematics. So it may be common sense that does not process if it is not solved well in the mathematical constructs at least. (There are physical limitations of hardware.) That's the typical difference in math software for other application software In particular, it can be reasoned that for such concern as the next case in mathematical software uses:

  1. It's not always solvable. # It can be solved theoretically, but it is most difficult to solve real or physical by computer caused by not in polynomial time. The encryption software applies the second case.

Evolution of mathematical software

Numerical analysis and symbolic calculation have been in the most important place of the subject, but other types of them are also developing now. A useful mathematical knowledge such as an existing algorithm before the invention of electronic computers, helped the development of mathematical software. On the other hand, with the growth of computing power (as seen in Moore's law), new treatments (eg, new types of techniques such as data assimilation combined with numerical analysis and statistics) require otherwise the advance of science mathematics or applied mathematics The progress of mathematical information presentation such as TeX or MathML will demand to form the evolution of the formula manipulation language into the actual language of mathematical manipulation (regardless of whether the mathematical theory is inconsistent or not). And popularizing general purpose mathematical software, a special-purpose mathematical software called a destination software that uses a specific subject will live by adapting for environmental advancement on platform normalization. So the diversity of math software will be stored.

Software calculator

The software calculator allows the user to perform simple mathematical operations, such as addition, multiplication, exponential and trigonometry. Data input is usually manual, and the result is a text label.

Computer algebra system

Many mathematical suites are computer algebra systems that use symbolic math. They are designed to solve classical algebraic equations and problems in human readable notation.

Numerical analysis

TK Solver is a mathematical modeling and system-based, rule-based, rule-based troubleshooting software commercialized by Universal Technical Systems, Inc.

The Netlib repository contains a wide collection of software routines for numerical problems, particularly in Fortran and C. Commercial products that employ many different numerical algorithms including IMSL, NMath and NAG libraries; a free alternative is the GNU Scientific Library. A different approach is taken by the Numerical Recipes library, where the emphasis is placed on a clear understanding of the algorithm.

Many computer algebra systems (listed above) can also be used for numerical calculations.
