Student Council
The STM student board is an important part of the school community, selecting students from every type of social background, academic level and age. Student Council Election at STM is often a high-spirited event that began weeks before the ballot, with most activities taking place in the last week, including speeches, debates, and general campaigns.
Activity
St. Thomas More has a number of unique and popular activities. The building is equipped with a television broadcast studio where the morning announcements are broadcast from. STM also features Christmas and End of Year videos that are often shared with student councils and teams and clubs who have won championships and awards throughout the year. STM also has Concert, Jazz and Guitar Bands and an award-winning choir throughout Canada and the United States.
Because of the school's Catholic background, there are many different social-activist clubs that are not found in most other schools. STM organized an organized "We Scare Hunger" campaign (initially Halloween for Famine) where students went door to door collecting canned items to the "Neighbor to Neighbor" Center at Hamilton Mountain. This program is currently in 16 years. In 2010, the campaign raised a total of 68,852 pounds of food and about $ 5,000 in monetary donations. A "Kickoff Concert" is also held to help get volunteer volunteers and collect extra money for the Neighbor to Neighbor Center. This food accounts for more than 5% of Neighbour's annual donations to Neighbors and is their biggest single donation every year. In 2011, the program's goal was 77,777 pounds of food.
The school also has a Miracle Christmas campaign where students in individual classes buy gifts for the less fortunate in Hamilton.
Administration
Due to the large size of the STM, there are three Vice Principals (Mr. C. Barone, Mr. Agro and Mr. Daly) who have jurisdiction over certain students depending on the last name (A-F, G-N and O-Z). The school has one principal, Ny. Sara Cannon.
Uniform
St. School's color Thomas More is black and gold. Schools are proud of their school uniforms, providing strict rules and consequences for violations in school dress codes. There are some special days (during important games, celebrations or holidays), where students can wear specially designed "spirit clothes". Designs ranging from clothing representing school clubs and teams to clothing featuring school mascots (STM Knights).
Football
St. Thomas More has one of the most outstanding and highly decorated football programs in Ontario. Having never won a championship before 1996, the Knights have appeared in 12 junior and 13 league senior league championships. The Senior Knights are consistently among the highest-ranking soccer teams in Canada. By 2017 they are ranked # 1 in the Canadian high school football team.
