Bette Midler born December 1, 1945) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, comedian and film producer.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Midler began his professional career in several Off-Off-Broadway dramas, before his engagement on Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof and Broadway in the late 1960s. He became famous in 1970 when he began singing at the Continental Bathing, a local gay bathhouse where he managed to build a core following.
Since 1970, Midler has released 14 studio albums as a solo artist. Throughout his career, many of his songs became a hit on the charts, including the songs "The Rose", "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Do You Want to Dance", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", and "From Distance". In 2008, he signed a contract with Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to perform the show titled Bette Midler: The Showgirl Must Go On , which ends in 2010.
Midler made his film debut in 1979 with The Rose , earning him the Golden Globe for Best Actress, as well as a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Personal life
Bette Midler was born in Honolulu, where her family is one of the few Jewish families in a mostly Asian neighborhood. His mother, Ruth (nÃÆ' Â © e Schindel; 1916-1979), was a tailor and housewife, and his father, Fred Midler (1912-1986), worked at a naval base in Hawaii as a painter, as well as a housemaid stairs. Both parents were born in New Jersey. She was named after actress Bette Davis, though Davis pronounced her first name in two syllables, and Midler used one. She grew up in Aiea and attended Radford High School, in Honolulu. He was voted "Most Talkative" at the 1961 Hoss Election School, and "Most Drama" in his senior year (class 1963). Midler majored in drama at the University of Hawaii at Manoa but left after three semesters. Midler moved to New York City in the summer of 1965, using money from his work in the movie Hawaii. She earned her first professional role in Tom Eyen Off-Off-Broadway drama in 1965, Miss Nefertiti Regrets and Cinderella Revisited, children's games during the day and people's performances mature by night. From 1966 to 1969, he played the role of Tzeitel on Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof. After Fiddler , he joined the original player of Salvation in 1969.

Midler released his debut album, Divine Miss M, on Atlantic Records in December 1972. The album was produced jointly by Barry Manilow, who was the arranger and conductor of Bette's music at the time. It reached Billboard's Top 10 and became a Platinum-certified album that sold millions, resulting in the 1973 Midler Grammy Award for Best New Artist. It featured three hit singles - "Do You Want Dance?", "Friends", and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" - the third being the first Midler No Adult First hit. His self-titled follow-up album was released in late 1973. Again, the album was co-produced by Manilow. Midler is working on a troubled comedy project Jinxed! in 1981. However, during production, there was friction with co-star Ken Wahl and film director Don Siegel. Released in 1982, the film was a huge failure. Midler did not appear in other films until 1986. During those four years, he concentrated on his musical career and in 1983 released the album No Chocolate, produced by Chuck Plotkin, best known for his work with Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The album included three single releases: the ballad "All I Need to Know", a cover of native Detroit Marshall Crenshaw's "You're My Favorite Waste of Time" - which Midler fell in love with after turning his 45 "Someday Someway" - and Midler took the Rolling Stones "Beast of Burden" cover. Today, Midler and his organization work with local volunteers and community groups to ensure that these parks are kept safe, clean and vibrant. In 2003, Midler opened Swindler Cove Park, a 5-acre public park (20,000 m 2 ) on the edge of Harlem River featuring a specially designed educational facility and Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse, the first community to row facilities which will be built on the Harlem River in over 100 years. This organization offers free school and after school free education programs to students from poor IQ schools.
In 2001 after 9/11, he established a program run by his foundation that helps members of the wounded service and their families by giving them resources, including custom homes. One of these programs helps service members recover from trauma, injury, and loss. Also, since the first Gulf War he went to the USO and at the base to show his gratitude to the military members by serving food before deployment.
