fair science experiments are generally competitions in which contestants present their science projects, producing report forms, display boards, and/or models they have created. Science exhibitions allow students in elementary, middle and high school to compete in science and/or technology activities. The main motive of fair science is for students to answer questions or tasks, not from textbooks but find themselves by conducting various experiments and ongoing research in the short time allocated to them. In order for a question or task to trigger an actual interest in students, they should be able to have an interesting and eye catching project that is often depicted on a display board.

The science exhibition also provides mechanisms for students who are very interested in science to be paired with mentors from nearby colleges and universities, so they can access instructions and equipment that can not be provided by the local school.

History

The science fair began in 1942, when William Emerson Ritter and Edward W. Scripps created "The Science Talent Search" for high school students. The first American National Science Exhibition was won by Alan J. Fletcher when he was 18 years old, winning with a view on the laws of motion. In the United States, science fairs became popular in the early 1950s. Interest in the sciences is at new heights after the world witnessed the use of the first two atomic weapons and the dawn of television. As the decade progresses, science stories in the news, such as the Jonas Salk vaccine for polio and the launch of Sputnik, bring science fiction into the real world and attract more and more students to the exhibition.
