A teacher assistant or teacher assistant ( TA ) or education assistant ( EA ) are individuals who assist a teacher with instructional responsibilities. As including: a graduate teaching assistant (GTA), who is a graduate student; undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA), who is a undergraduate student; TAS high school, which is either high school students or adults; and adult primary school TAs (also known as paraprofessional educators or teacher aides). By definition, TAs help with classes, but many graduate students serve as single instructors for one or more classes each semester as fellow instructors or graduate student instructors. Graduates and adult TAs generally have a fixed salary determined by each contract period (usually one semester or one academic year); however, high school students and students are sometimes unpaid and, in the US and other countries with credit systems, receive course credit in return for their help. Teaching assistants often assist primary teachers by managing students with learning disabilities, such as ADHD, Autism, or even physical disabilities, such as blindness or deafness.

Graduates

Graduate teaching assistants (often referred to as simple GTA or TAs) are graduate students working on temporary contracts by departments at colleges or universities in teaching-related responsibilities. In New Zealand, Australia, and some Canadian universities, TA graduates are known as tutors. The position of the North American graduate FA provides funding for postgraduate research - although its primary purpose is to provide teaching support - and often serves as a career first step for aspiring academics. The responsibilities of TA vary greatly and may include: guidance; holding office hours; test or exam invigilating; and help a professor with a large lecture class by teaching students in a recitation session, a lab, or a discussion. Professors can also use their teaching assistants to help teach discussion during regular classes. This provides an opportunity for postgraduate students to use their teaching skills, as many are pursuing a teaching career. Some graduate students assist in distance education programs by meeting with students as proficient professors. Graduate TAs should not be equated with teaching fellows (TFs) or graduate student instructors (GSI), who are graduate students who serve as the main instructor for the course. However, in some universities, the titles of TF and TA are used interchangeably.

Tutorial

In the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Ireland and some Canadian universities, a teacher is often, but not always, a graduate student or lecturer assigned to a seminar for undergraduate students, often known as tutorials. The equivalent of such tutors in the United States and other parts of Canada is known as a graduate teaching assistant or graduate student instructor (GSI).

UTA or JTA (Young Teacher Assistant) usually serves as a true assistant to the class; they usually have taken courses they support, often with the same professors, and have performed well in them. This case is less common for GTA, as many will be students at other institutions. Unlike professors and GTAs, UTAs generally do not have a fixed salary but are paid by the hour, get credit hours, or volunteer their time.

The term teaching assistant is used in secondary and secondary school settings for students or adults who help a teacher with one or more classes. The responsibilities, circumstances, and conditions of involvement of these individuals differ from those in higher education. A less formal position, TA's work in secondary education is generally determined by supervisory teachers. Common tasks include helping students with their work, and taking attendance. Most of the responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant do not require the academic expertise of the professor in charge. Some teaching assistants at this level can teach part of the class lesson, or teach lessons to small groups of students who need additional instruction. Many TAs work "one on one" with students with special needs; This TA overshadows their students and helps with classroom work, organization, and behavioral management. In some parts of the United States it is customary or even necessary that each class has one certified teacher and one or more fellow teachers or teaching assistants.

Students who attend high school and secondary school can take courses, usually elective, and perform tasks such as grades and record scores on homework or tests. The work performed by the assistant in the role is not boring and the teacher in this setting reviews the judgment to establish partial credit on tests and using discretion.

A primary school teaching assistant is an adult employed to help a teacher with classroom-related tasks, similar to those encountered in high school and high school environments. They are sometimes referred to as paraprofessionals ('paras' for short) or teacher aides. Primary school teaching assistants are generally employed on contracts that take place throughout the academic year.
