Adobe Premiere Pro is a time-based video editing application developed by Adobe Systems and published as part of Adobe's Creative Cloud licensing program. First launched in 2003, Adobe Premiere Pro is the successor of Adobe Premiere (first launched in 1991). It is geared towards professional video editing, while its sibling, Adobe Premiere Elements, targets the consumer market.
CNN is an early adopter of Adobe Premiere. Also, in 2007, several BBC departments adopted Premiere. It has been used to edit feature movies, such as Deadpool , Gone Girl , Captain Abu Raed , and Monster , and other places such as the Madonna Confessions Tour.

Premiere Pro is a redesigned successor to Adobe Premiere, and launched in 2003. Premiere Pro refers to versions released in 2003 and later, while Premiere refers to previous releases. Premiere was one of the first computer-based NLE (non-linear editing systems), with its first release on the Mac in 1991. Adobe briefly abandoned the Mac platform after version 6 of Premiere. Until Premiere Pro 2.0 (CS2) version, the software package features a galloping horse, with a nod to Eadweard Muybridge's work, "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop".

Premiere Pro supports high-resolution video editing of up to 10,240 ÃÆ'â € "8,192 resolutions, up to 32-bit per channel color, in either RGB or YUV. Audio sample level editing, VST audio plug-in support, and 5.1 surround sound mixing are available. The Premiere Pro plug-in architecture allows to import and export outside formats supported by QuickTime or DirectShow, supporting multiple video and audio file formats and codecs on MacOS and Windows. When used with Cineform's Neo line plugs, it supports 3D editing with the ability to view 3D material using 2D monitors, while making adjustments to each left and right eye.

- Through Adobe Dynamic Link, the composition of Adobe After Effects can be imported and played back directly in the Premiere Pro timeline. The After Effects composition can be modified, and after switching back to Premiere Pro, the clip will be updated with changes. Likewise, Premiere Pro projects can be imported into After Effects. Clips can be copied between two applications while preserving the clip attribute. Premiere Pro also supports many After Effects plug-ins.

- Adobe Photoshop files can be opened directly from Premiere Pro for editing in Photoshop. Any changes will be updated as soon as the Photoshop file is saved and the focus back to Premiere Pro. Adobe Story, OnLocation and Prelude
- Premiere Pro workflow utilizes metadata in video production scripts. Scripts created in or taken to Adobe Story, then forwarded to Adobe OnLocation to retrieve records and attach relevant metadata from the script to the recording. Finally, in Premiere Pro, voice recognition can match audio to dialogs from scripts in metadata. Clips can be searched based on their dialog in Premiere Pro, and can be sent to Adobe Encore to create a searchable web DVD. Adobe Prelude replaces OnLocation in CS6 and above.

Advantages above Premiere Elements
The entry-level version, Adobe Premiere Elements is intended for home users available on Microsoft Windows and macOS. With Premiere Pro aimed at professional markets, it has advantages over Premiere Elements including multiple sequence support, high bit bit depth rendering, multicamera editing, mapping time, coverage, color correction tools, advanced audio mixer interface and bezier keyframing. Premiere Pro also has Encore, for more complicated DVD and Blu-ray Disc writing options, and OnLocation for direct recording to disk. Encore does not continue with Adobe Creative Cloud release.
