History
On December 15, 1978 marked the birth of the first state university in Region XI. On this date, Border of Pambansa Blg. 12 endorsed, thus creating the University of Southern Philippines, the university's first namewriter did not know that there was already a university of the same name, the University of the Southern Philippines in Cebu, to be renamed the University of the Southeast Philippines.
The integration of the School of Arts and Commerce (DSAT) and the National Regional Agricultural School (DNRAS) Philippines paved the way for the births of five USeP campuses: Davao City's main campus in Obrero with an area of ââ6.5 hectares; the Mintal campus, Davao City which has an area of ââ2.8 hectares; Tagum campus, Tagum City with 77 hectares of land; the Mabini campus located on an area of ââ109 hectares in Mampising, Mabini, Province of Compostela Valley; and the latest addition, Bislig campus in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur with an area of ââ9.7 hectares.
In the early years of the College of Engineering and Technology on the campus of Obrero, the College of Forestry and Agriculture at Tagum and the Mabini campuses as well as the College of Arts and Sciences on the Mintal campus. The following years witnessed developments in the academic and administrative fields of USEP.
In 1993, through the resolution of the Bupati Council, the External Study Program was established. This is USEP-Hinatuan Ext. Programs in Surigao del Sur; USEP-Baganga External Study Program at Davao Oriental; USEP-Kapalong College of Agricultural Technology and Entrepreneurship and the USEP-pitch External Studies Program.
In 1996, the USEP-Bislig campus in Surigao del Sur was established. PICOP freed nine hectares of Barangay Maharlika, Bislig for the initial campus.
From 1993 to 1997, new units were created. Among them are the Mindanao Center for Policy Studies (MCPS); Affiliated Non-Conventional Energy Center (ANEC) for Region XI; Office of Registration and Student Records (OASR); Medical Division; Institute of Finance and Urban Management; University Test and Guidance Office (UGTO); Project Implementation Unit (PIU); The Institute of Computing (IC) and the Center for the administration and organizational structure of the university to make it more responsive to changing needs and to allow the university to engage more in research and extension. Today, it has a modified organizational structure of the university, which sees the continued implementation of the university's decentralization policy under established policy guidelines, which has resulted in more effective and efficient units. The Night Program is implemented through Resolution No. BOR. 2732 accommodates students who can not follow a typical day program with some variation in cost. Also, the Summer Program has been approved. In 2001, the total number of curriculum offerings was 31 for the Graduate School and 28 for the Undergraduate Program.
Beginning in 2002, the President's Office under the administration of Dr. Julieta I. Ortiz identifies and pursues the Program Accreditation as one of the primary boosts of the university. In the same year, three programs were granted Level I status by AACCUP. This is BSED from USeP Tagum and Obrero, BEED from Obrero and Forestry and Agricultural Engineering Tagum. Currently, 16 graduate programs are accredited academic units.
