Biography

Not satisfied with the anthology. Poems by a Thousand Tuan ( Qianjiashi ???), composed by Liu Kezhuang, during the Southern Song Dynasty; and, influenced by the anthology of the Ming Dynasty poem, Sun chose poetry for a new anthology, based on their popularity and educational value. The collection has been popular ever since, and can be found in many Chinese households. For centuries, elementary school students memorized poetry and used it to learn to read and write. The collection includes the selection of most forms of Tang poetry from the form shi , which is considered the main poetic type. The great poets whose work appears in the Sun Zhu anthology include Du Fu, Li Bai, Wang Wei, Li Shangyin, Meng Haoran, and Bai Juyi.
