History
In the mid-1990s, responding to phenomenal growth in the southern part of Mecklenburg County, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Council decided to build a new high school between Mecklenburg South and the Olympic high school. The new school will be open for the academic year 2001-2002. The selected site is located off I-77 on Nations Ford Road.
In the spring of 2001, the School Board named the new school after Dr. Elbert Edwin Waddell (1922-1988). The school was officially dedicated on Sunday, June 2, 2002.
In 2010, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools opted to close high school and use the facilities for the Smith Academy of International Languages âââ ⬠<â ⬠In 2011, the last class of high school graduates E. Mascot
The original school mascot, Raider, reflects the rich history of the Ford Nation (the convenient crossing over the Catawba River) and the surrounding area at the founding of the United States. This is reminiscent of "overmountain men" and other southern patriots who fought with unconventional methods - contributing to the southern piedmont described as "The Hornet's Nest" in the Revolutionary War (1775-1781).
When Smith Language Academy moved to the Waddell campus, Ram's mascot was brought. The school athletics team is known as the Waddell Language Academy Rams.
Stadium
E.E. The Waddell Academy Language Stadium is a 6,000-capacity stadium located on the grounds of E. E. Waddell Academy of Languages ââin Charlotte, North Carolina.
The stadium is used for Waddell Soccer, track and field, and American Football. It also serves as home ground for the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Division II through the 2007 season.
2013 saw the Olympic high school and West Mecklenburg move several matches to the stadium while their own stadium underwent renovations.
